If you are looking for a coffee that not only impresses with its flavour, but also with its origin and tradition, then the Rast Aceh Mandheling is made for you. The beans for this special coffee grow in the high altitudes of Sumatra, at over 1,200 metres, under organic conditions - fairly traded, with a history and real depth in the cup.
The Aceh Mandheling impresses with a round, full body and a flavour that ranges between dark chocolate, spices and a fine raspberry note. Its flavour is reminiscent of roasted hazelnuts. Thanks to the traditional Indonesian processing method Giling Basah, this coffee develops a typical, earthy complexity with little acidity but a long finish - an experience for all the senses.
Whether as an espresso or café crème - this coffee shows its best side. The medium roast brings out its intense flavours particularly well. In a portafilter or fully automatic machine, the Aceh Mandheling unfolds its full body and exciting blend of flavour and fine fruit. It is less suitable for filter coffee, where it lacks the desired clarity.
The coffee comes from the Permata Gayo Cooperative, which was founded in 2006 by returning small farmers after the years of civil war and the tsunami. Today it has over 2,000 members from 39 villages. Fairtrade premiums and organic certification have not only improved quality and traceability - the cooperative also secures a sustainable income for the farming families. We recommend that espresso roasts be used 12 days after the roast date or filter coffees 5 days after the roast date found on the package. Freshly roasted coffee needs this time until it is ready for a constant extraction.
