Latte macchiato: a treat for all the senses

Have you ever wondered how to make a perfect latte macchiato? Don't worry, you're not alone! Many people have asked themselves this question and that's why, inspired by our spirit of discovery, we experimented until we created the perfect latte macchiato.

In this description, you will learn everything you need to know about this popular drink and get practical tips on how to make it.

Where does the name latte macchiato come from?

The name "latte macchiato" comes from the Italian and literally means "spotted milk". This name aptly describes the appearance of the drink, in which espresso and milk form a beautiful layer in the glass. Originally, the latte macchiato was developed to offer children a milder version of coffee by adding a small shot of espresso to hot milk.

What makes a perfect latte macchiato?

A perfect latte macchiato is characterised by its clear layers: The milk at the bottom, the espresso in the centre and the creamy milk foam on top. The secret lies in the right temperature of the milk, the quality of the espresso and slow preparation so that the layers do not mix. This is the only way to create the characteristic flavour and appealing appearance that makes the latte macchiato so popular.

95% Arabica. Slowly roasted over an open olive wood fire.Trinakria Since ancient times, this sun symbol has stood for Sicily, the fertile island in the Mediterranean where, according to Homer, the sun god Helios grazed his flocks. The winged girl's head, with three legs running around it, echoes the island's characteristic triangular shape and, like the sun itself, symbolises strength, energy and life. Three forces Tre Force.Roasting over an olive wood fire A forgotten secret of Italian espresso culture lies dormant at the foot of the volcano Mount Etna in Sicily: over 120 years ago, people there roasted their caffè over an open olive wood fire. The slopes of Mount Etna are rich in olive groves, which grow particularly well on the fertile lava soil. The lava soil enriches the wood with minerals, which release spicy flavours when burned. Tre Force has revived this gentle, manual roasting process and optimised this traditional method specifically for roasting Tre Force Caffè. As many generations ago, the cut wood from the olive groves is utilised and no trees are felled. The perfect blendQuality and care Tre Force only uses selected premium beans from the best highland locations in the world. The blend is secret. A smaller proportion of high-quality robusta beans refines first-class Arabica beans. In contrast to the standard process, the raw beans are not filtered and sieved twice, but five times and then roasted by hand in small quantities at a low temperature for 20 to 30 minutes. Each type of bean is given exactly the roasting time it requires. And only then are they blended. During this gentle prelude, they release their valuable flavours and oils.Chocolaty and nutty aromas Before roasting, the raw beans used smell of a composition of fresh mint, olive wood and green peas. The roasted beans exude a blend of delicately spicy flavours reminiscent of dates, chocolate and nuts. The espresso develops flavours characterised by chocolate and nutty impressions.

What are the ingredients of a latte macchiato?

A classic latte macchiato consists of three main ingredients: Freshly brewed espresso, hot milk and fine-pored milk foam. The milk should have a fat content of at least 3.5% to make the milk foam nice and creamy. Depending on your taste, you can also use plant-based alternatives such as soya or almond milk.

How is a latte macchiato prepared?

Preparing a latte macchiato is a bit of a ritual. First, froth the milk and pour it into a tall glass. Then brew a strong espresso and slowly slide it over the back of a spoon into the milk to obtain the layering. Finally, top it all off with a thick layer of milk foam. Make sure that the milk is not hotter than 65 degrees so that the foam remains stable.

Which glasses do I need and what about the spoon?

For an authentic latte macchiato, you need a tall, narrow glass with a capacity of around 250 ml. This allows you to see the different layers clearly. The spoon, ideally a long latte macchiato spoon, is not just for stirring, but is also a stylish accessory. It allows you to enjoy the milk foam without destroying the layering.

Accessories for the perfect latte macchiato

To perfect your latte macchiato, some helpers are indispensable. An espresso machine with a steam nozzle makes it easier to froth the milk, a milk jug helps to pour the milk precisely and a thermometer ensures that the temperature is right. For a creative touch, you can add syrups or cocoa powder - there are no limits to your imagination.

Now you are perfectly equipped to prepare a latte macchiato like a pro at home. Let yourself be inspired by Italian coffee culture and enjoy the result of your efforts!
