This organic rooibos tea forms the basis for this fruity and refreshing tea, which is flavoured with fragrant bergamot oil, creamy vanilla, jasmine and lavender flowers. The drink presents itself as a full-bodied and silky tea with floral nuances. It contains no caffeine and is becoming increasingly popular. It is also ideal as a refreshing iced tea.
Rooibos, scientifically known as Aspalathus linearis, belongs to the legume family and is native to the western mountain regions of South Africa's Western Cape province. Selected forms of Aspalathus linearis are cultivated for the production of rooibos tea. In contrast to black or green tea, rooibos is obtained from the branches of the plant. These are harvested once a year, crushed, pressed and dried after fermentation. Harvesting is usually done by hand. Rooibos tea has a reddish-brown colour, which is mainly due to the flavonoids it contains. These flavonoids, also known as antioxidants, make the tea particularly interesting from a health perspective.
Rooibos is grown exclusively in the Cedar Mountains in South Africa, unlike the tea plant, which can grow on different continents under the right climatic conditions. Around 300 farmers ensure that the tea has not only become South Africa's national drink, but is also exported to more than 140 countries worldwide. This type of tea, which belongs to the papilionaceous family, is also becoming increasingly popular in Switzerland.
Rooibos tea is said to have a number of positive effects on health. It is said to be rich in minerals, regulate digestion, help with sleep and relaxation problems and reduce the risk of cancer.
