The rich soils and climatic conditions in the Sidama growing region characterise this exquisite gourmet coffee. But fair trade is just as important to Tropical Mountains. The Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (SCFCU) ensures that the farmers make a living and that community projects can be financed - such as roads or schools for the producers' children.
It all began in Ethiopia. It is the original home of Arabica coffee. Legend has it that around 850 AD, Ethiopian monks were amazed that their goats were jumping around so lively. They had been feeding on the as yet unknown coffee cherries. Curious, the men tried the dark red fruits for themselves. But disappointed by the bitter flavour, they threw them into the fire. But lo and behold, suddenly a delicious aroma spread. The monks put out the fire and brewed a revitalising drink from the roasted beans. The first cup of coffee.
Centuries have passed since then. But even today, the high plains of Sidama, in southern Ethiopia, are legendary for their unique Arabica coffee, which we gently roast for you. You can now enjoy it conveniently from the Nespresso-compatible capsules.
The packaging of the capsules is designed to leave no trace. Simply remove the paper from the container and recycle. Shred the rest of the packaging and throw it in the compost along with the fully compostable capsules. There are undoubtedly simpler, less elaborate ways to create packaging, but they generate a lot of waste.
Under the lid is a coffee bean, ready for planting. The Tropical Mountains packaging is a perfect planter - add some compost or potting soil and the circle is complete.

The story of Tropical Mountains begins in 2012, when Thomas Schwegler and Gisella Iriarte-Schwegler founded the Tropical Mountains Farm. In addition to growing certified organic coffee, they are also involved in social projects such as the construction of a village school. Quality is the top priority at Tropical Mountains. All of their varieties score over 80 out of a possible 100 points according to the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA).
Tropical Mountains coffee is grown sustainably and organically. The focus is not only on nature, but also on people. The coffee comes directly from their farm or from their organic and fair trade certified partners. The Tropical Mountains family is constantly growing, but its values remain unchanged.
Tropical Mountains takes an environmentally friendly approach by avoiding aluminium and plastic in their packaging. Their coffee pods are even compostable. At Tropical Mountains, they stay true to their roots: organic farming, direct fair trade and sustainable packaging.
