Geisha City Roastery, Santa Clara, Renacimiento, Panama
Lightly roasted, it unfolds its complex, fruity and floral flavour. Balanced, sweet, clean. A Geisha from the Finca Hartmann. The Hartmann family is one of the pioneers of speciality coffees and began cultivating coffee in Panama back in 1940. Even today, the cultivation of coffee close to nature and the preservation of biodiversity are still practised.
Stadtrösterei Solothurn is the speciality roasting plant of Oetterli Kaffee. The idea is to move away from the "mainstream" of (too) dark-roasted coffees based on cheap green coffee and towards genuine speciality coffee. In the centre of the city, it is a meeting place where everyone can philosophise about coffee and discover a completely different side to the natural product that is coffee, a fruit. No show, but real roasting art from the 2018 Swiss champion in coffee roasting.
Roasting master is Panagiotis "Panos" Megalessis, guru, freak, lover, coffee sommelier or coffee artist. Coffee and Greek-Swiss blood run through Panos' veins. It all started at home, where Panos spent years experimenting with coffee, ordering green coffee from the best growing regions in the world, developing his own roasts and exchanging ideas with specialists around the globe. He also has many years of practical experience as a barista. His skills culminated in winning two silver medals (Latte Art and Brewers Cup) at Swiss championships. Panos has been the master roaster at the "Stadtrösterei" since April 2016. By winning the gold medal in 2018 (Swiss Champion) and a 5th place at the World Coffee Roasting Championships, Panos has shown in an impressive way that he not only lives his craft, but also understands it.
