Coffee Curator Cuvée No 1

For the development of the new Kaffeezentrale Cuvée No1, we asked ourselves what exactly a cuvée is? Winemakers deliberately and knowingly blend different grape varieties together in such a way that this creates even more balance or an even more interesting taste experience. The history of the coffee centre cuvée played another role: the taste profile should not be completely new, rather the product should resemble a classic espresso understanding. The Cuvée is therefore Coffee Central's own interpretation of the classic, Italian model of an espresso. The unwashed Arabica from Brazil is responsible for the nutty, balanced, sweet characteristics of the Cuvée, while the washed Robusta from India provides the necessary intensity, strength and incomparable crema. In combination, the two coffees are our modern interpretation of a classic Italian espresso.Behind the name "Coffee Curator" is Coffee Central's project to curate coffees and coffee boxes and make speciality coffees palatable to a wide audience. For this mission, we are working together with the specialty coffee roastery of the Coffee Makers. The Coffee Makers are Benjamin Hohlmann, Felix Hohlmann and Philipp Schallberger with a team in Switzerland and Nicaragua. Some of them are licensed Q graders, multiple barista masters and long-time coffee experts. How did Coffee Curator come about? in 2017, Nina Rimpl and Armin Luginbühl came up with the idea of Coffee Curator boxes, i.e. to give our customers the opportunity to get to know a country of origin a little better with a box of three coffees each. Both have been in the coffee business for a long time, Nina is a barista master, international juror and National Coordinator of SCA Switzerland (Specialty Coffee Association Switzerland) and Armin founded Kaffeezentrale.

Wild coffee from the nature reserve

Since 2010, the Kaffa region has been recognized as a Unesco Biosphere Reserve. The biosphere reserve with strictly protected core zones, in which only wild coffee may be collected.

The transition zones with low-impact use as well as development zones with agricultural land, is a showcase example of how conservation and economic development can be sustainably combined.

At present, around 30 cooperatives take care of the harvesting and marketing of this specialty coffee and have provided income for over 40,000 people.

Kaffa Wild Coffee is the only wild coffee from certified organic wild collection. All farmers and their forest plots are registered, the collection quantities are checked and regular controls ensure that there is no encroachment or thinning in the forest.v
