To meet the high requirements, Hario uses the very best Japanese paper. It is fine in the bleached version, because this develops less of its own taste (in contrast to the unbleached version); the paper is bleached in an environmentally friendly way with the help of oxygen.

To remove the inherent taste from the paper, rinse the filter paper with boiling water before use, while it is already in the filter holder. This prevents the paper taste from interfering with the coffee, and the filter holder and the receptacle are preheated for the brewing process.
