Tropical Mountains Cascara
Cáscara is Spanish and means "coffee husk". The coffee cherry consists of 80% of the so-called "pulp", i.e. the fruit flesh and the skin. The cherry contains two seeds, the coffee beans we are so familiar with. We dry the pulp on raised beds in the sun and it becomes a fruity-smelling "cascara".
Coffee husk tea or cascara tea can be made from this cascara husk. Coffee farmers have been drinking this tea for centuries. In some Central and South American countries, it is a national drink. The amber-coloured liquid is a cult drink and invigorating, as a cup of cascara contains up to eight times more caffeine than ordinary coffee.

The story of Tropical Mountains begins in 2012, when Thomas Schwegler and Gisella Iriarte-Schwegler founded the Tropical Mountains Farm. In addition to growing certified organic coffee, they are also involved in social projects such as the construction of a village school. Quality is the top priority at Tropical Mountains. All of their varieties score over 80 out of a possible 100 points according to the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA).
Tropical Mountains coffee is grown sustainably and organically. The focus is not only on nature, but also on people. The coffee comes directly from their farm or from their organic and fair trade certified partners. The Tropical Mountains family is constantly growing, but its values remain unchanged.
Tropical Mountains takes an environmentally friendly approach by avoiding aluminium and plastic in their packaging. Their coffee pods are even compostable. At Tropical Mountains, they stay true to their roots: organic farming, direct fair trade and sustainable packaging. As a member of the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO), they support local schools and fund charitable projects. At Tropical Mountains, they firmly believe that respect influences flavour.
